Asian Rust Spots Increases in Brazil

4/28/2009

Mato Grosso state is reaching 100% of soybean harvested, and register 8,94% more rust focus than last crop, according to Aprosoja/ MT.

In Whole Brazil, so far, were registered 2,810 spots with Asian rust. Its 33, 8% more than last year.

According to Aprosoja, this result comes from less investment in defensives due to credit crises, but also because a high increase in the control process was reached.

In MT the number of samples to laboratories increased in 70%, and in whole country the monitoring program was also intensified in same scale.

But the Ag Eng. Carlos Bortolini Jr. warns the rust is getting more resistant each year, and so producers need to expend more investments in fungicide. In his point of view, Asian rust must to be handled as an epidemic illness to be defeated.
