23 Things to Do on a Rainy Day during Harvest
10/30/2009
Compiled by Farm Journal’s
Sara Schafer
and
Pam Smith
Yep, those drops you were heard when you woke up was not your coffee brewing –more rain.
With the constant, sporadic and down-right gloomy weather many farmers are experiencing across farm country, we here at Farm Journal thought you could use a to-do list for these rainy days.
Here you go:
Drink a beer or two
Carve a pumpkin
Fix the tail lights on trailers and wagons
Rest up from the last four days of 24/7 combining
Shop for next year’s corn hybrids and soybean varieties
Clean all the candy wrappers out of the combine cab
Brush up on your marketing knowledge
Submit your current crop and weather conditions to
CropComments@agweb.com
.
Go to the elevator for free coffee and donuts
Winterize your shop, vehicles and machinery
Get a jumpstart on your Christmas shopping (especially for your spouse)
Look for any important receipts or invoices under your truck seat or stuffed in the visor
Submit a photo of your tractor to
Your Favorite Tractor
Check the weather radar for the 12
th
time to see when the next clear day will be
Plan your winter vacation
Challenge a neighboring farmer to a computer Solitaire marathon
Pump water from flooded soybeans in steady rain**
Go duck hunting**
Fix stuff that ain't broke yet.**
Complete “winter projects” such as updating your bathroom, which was still in the original early 60's decor. (Think aqua plastic tiles and cast iron tub). You might just finish it before harvest!**
Polish the paint oxidation off of the old tractors, so some un-expecting noisy neighbor might think you traded tractors, (until he gets close to see otherwise).**
Go to Fort Hood, Texas to greet our Grandson who is returning from Iraq in Nov. 3.**
Wii bowl with the grandkids.**
**new additions from farmers
