Mistakes When Working with a Marketing Adviser – Part 3
11/17/2009
Sara Schafer, Farm Journal Media Business & Crops Online Editor
The first-ever Marketing Rally is less than a month away. Held at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago, the world’s center for grain, this historic gathering provides producers unprecedented access to the best marketing minds in agriculture – all under one roof.
During the event, these 16 market experts will provide extremely valuable and elite marketing information to participants.
To spur some Marketing Rally thinking, we’ve asked all of the experts the following question:
What’s the No. 1 mistake farmers make in working with a marketing adviser?
Here are answers from four of the market experts:
Sue Martin, Ag & Investment Services, Inc.
I have noticed that producers tend to procastinate or hold fear of the "what if, I don't get a crop" and then do not do anything until it is too late. Also, knowing what would be a profitable return in dollars per bushel versus 5% return on money invested.
Jerry Gulke, Gulke Group
Being slow to react to advice is a big mistake. Additionally, waiting to see if the advisor was right or not!
Mike Florez, Florez Trading
Biggest mistake is staying with a bad market position.
Brian Basting, Advance Trading
My response would be the No. 1 mistake farmers make in working with a marketing adviser is that they sometimes tend to ‘pick and choose’ which strategy recommendations to follow.
Stay tuned to read the answers from the other experts.
