“The people that have the higher levels of knowledge are going to be the individuals that going to be more able to compete more effectively than others,” he says.
Lash says in the past few years, the difference between the country’s financially top and bottom farmers has been steadily growing.
“In today’s world you can’t be successful long-term by being average,” he says. “There is a growing difference -- a real money difference – between the average and the better operations.”
Lash says farmers need to strive to be above the curve, to ensure sustainable growth.
To do this, Lash made two key points:
- Identify your weaknesses: Lash said all producers are stronger in some areas than others. He suggests finding out where those weaknesses are and identify ways to overcome them.
- Use the tools available: “There are tools available to us today that weren’t available even three to four years ago,” he says. “We need to understand how to use and apply those.”
