Frost Concerns to Make Corn Pop

10/7/2009

Linda Smith, Top Producer Executive Editor

Allendale, working with AgriGold seeds, estimates about 100 million bushels of corn could be damaged by the impending freeze. As much as 25 million of that may be worth salvage value only, says Allendale's Rich Nelson. That's assuming an original potential yield of 164.1 bu/acre, versus USDA's September estimate of 161.9 bu./acre.

"That could give us a 1 to 2 day bounce in prices. The potential impact probably is not that great in the long term."
