Cattle markets are still fighting to recover from a stampede of bad press. From Pink Slime to Mad Cow consumers pulled back and prices fell, now live cattle futures are trending up climbing about 3 percent since last month. June contracts at the CBOT hit a three week high as grilling season and improving demand looms.
I-80 TOUR:
This week Agday's national reporter Tyne Morgan makes her second to last stop on this year's planting tour. Her travels bring her to Ohio, where as of Monday, the US crop progress report showed farmers being 77 points ahead of last year in planting. Tyne, I understand Ohio got some rain Monday morning. Thanks, Tyne. We dug into the USDA records and found that at this time last year, only two-percent of the state's corn and none of the soybeans had been planted.
CROP WATCH:
Lots of rain over the weekend brought planters to a stop in some parts of the country. Mike Hoffman has more in crop watch.
ANALYSIS:
If this year’s corn crop doesn't face weather problems, we could see a huge increase in grain stocks. Meanwhile old-crop soybean and corn stocks keep tightening. As we prepare for Thursday’s release of some key government reports, farm director Al Pell looks at how the market could respond.
