TODAY ON AGDAY

MARCH 15, 2013

FURLOUGH DETAILS:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WE CONTINUE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT FURLOUGH PLANS FOR THE NATIONS MEAT INSPECTORS.

FARM BILL:

LUCAS AND PETERSON BOTH ALSO TALKED ABOUT GETTING A FARM BILL FINISHED IN 2013.
BOTH WERE ENCOURAGED...ESPCIALLY SINCE BUDGETS HAVE BEEN RELEASED. THE TWO SAY, IF LEADERSHIP GIVES THE AG COMMITTEE A TARGET THEY'LL HIT IT. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE THE RYAN BUDGETS ASKS FOR 30 TO 35 BILLION IN SAVINGS...SIMILAR TO LAST YEAR'S NUMBER. PETERSON ALSO SAID HE MET RECENTLY WITH HOUSE LEADER JOHN BOEHNER. BOEHNER ASSURED HIM THAT HE'S NOT INTERESTED IN ANOTHER EXTENSION.

MILK REPORTS:

PETERSON IS A BIG SUPPORTER OF THE DAIRY INDUSTRY. BUT THAT INDUSTRY ISN'T HAPPY WITH NEWLY ANNOUNCED SEQUESTRATION CUTS. THE NATIONAL MILK PRODUCERS FEDERATION IS UPSET OVER THE SUSPENSION OF MILK PRODUCTION REPORTS. NMPF SAYS THAT INFORMATION CAN-NOT BE FOUND ANYWHERE ELSE...AND THEY'RE CRITICAL FOR THE INDUSTRY. THE REPORTS WERE SUSPENDED FROM MARCH THROUGH SEPTEMBER.

U.S. COUNTIES DYING OFF:

ALSO OUT OF WASHINGTON, THE LATEST CENSUS CALCULATIONS SHOW THAT A RECORD OF U.S. COUNTIES, MORE THAN 1 IN 3 ARE NOW DYING OFF.
