TODAY ON AGDAY

MAY 14, 2013

CROP PROGRESS:

GOOD MORNING I'M TYNE MORGAN. CLINTON IS ON ASSIGNMENT. WHILE PARTS OF THE MIDWEST SAW BETTER PLANTING CONDITIONS LAST WEEK, IT STILL DID NOT BRING HUGE CHANGE TO THE WEEKLY CROP PROGRESS REPORT. SO, HERE ARE THE NUMBERS. CORN PLANTING REACHED 28% AS OF SUNDAY, AN IMPROVEMENT OF 16 FROM LAST WEEK. THAT COMPARES TO THE FIVE YEAR AVERAGE OF 65%. STATE BY STATE - WE SAW THE BIGGEST GAINS IN THE EASTERN CORNBELT. OHIO CORN PLANTINGS WERE UP NEARLY 40 POINTS. INDIANA IS 22 POINTS BETTER. IN THE WESTERN CORNBELT, NEBRASKA SAW A 29 POINT IMPROVEMENT. IOWA IS UP ONLY 7% POINTS...AND IS 60% POINTS BEHIND AVERAGE. SOYBEAN PLANTING REACHED 6%...STILL LAGGING THE FIVE YEAR AVERAGE. NOW TO WINTER WHEAT WHERE 29% HAS HEADED. THE FIVE YEAR AVERAGE IS OVER 50%. THE KANSAS WHEAT CROP IS 9% HEADED. USUALLY, HALF OF THE STATE'S CROP HAS PROGRESSED THAT FAR.

CROP WATCH:

LET'S GET YOUR FIRST LOOK AT FARM COUNTRY WEATHER ON THIS TUESDAY MORNING. METEOROLOGIST MIKE HOFFMAN JOINS US FROM THE AGDAY WEATHER-CENTER, MIKE.

MONSANTO:

MONSANTO SCORED A BIG WIN MONDAY AGAINST AN INDIANA FARMER WHO REPLANTED HARVESTED SOYBEANS WHICH CONTAINED ROUND-UP TECHNOLOGY. THE U-S SUPREME COURT UPHELD A LOWER COURTS' RULING AGAINST VERNON HUGH BOWMAN.

DAIRY TODAY:

IN NEWS FROM OUR PARTNERS AT DAIRY TODAY - IF USDA'S ESTIMATE FOR A MUCH LARGER CORN CARRYOVER PROVE CORRECT, DAIRY PRODUCERS COULD BE IN FOR A BETTER YEAR.
THE AG DEPARTMENT'S SUPPLY-DEMAND REPORT SHOWS INCREASING MILK PRODUCTION IN 2014 DUE TO LOWER FEED COSTS. U-S DAIRY FARMERS ARE EXPECTING TO PRODUCE NEARLY TWO-HUNDRED AND FIVE BILLION POUNDS OF FLUID MILK IN THE COMING YEAR. THAT'S AN INCREASE OF NEARLY THREE BILLION POUNDS OVER 2012 LEVELS. AND, IT APPEARS DAIRY EXPORTS WILL SHOW GROWTH IN 2014. USDA IS FORECASTING 10.3 BILLION POUNDS IN DAIRY EXPORTS WHICH OUTPACE THE PAST THREE YEARS.
