TODAY ON AGDAY

MAY 22, 2013

FARM BILL:

GOOD MORNING I'M TYNE MORGAN. CLINTON GRIFFITHS IS ON ASSIGNMENT. AS THE SENATE DEBATES THE FARM BILL THIS WEEK, THE WHITE HOUSE IS ENCOURAGING LAWMAKERS TO MAKE BIGGER CUTS TO CROP INSURANCE.

IMMIGRATION:

MEANWHILE, IMMIGRATION REFORM IS MAKING ITS WAY OUT OF COMMITTEE. IT'S EXPECTED ON THE SENATE FLOOR IN JUNE. AND WHILE SEVERAL AMENDMENTS HAVE BEEN PROPOSED THUS FAR, THE 844 PAGE BILL REMAINS LARGELY UNTOUCHED. SECRETARY VILSACK SAYS HE HOPES THE MEASURE WILL MAKE IT TO THE PRESIDENT'S DESK BY THE END OF THE YEAR.

DRONE LAW:

AS MORE PEOPLE EXPLORE WHAT'S COMMONLY KNOWN AS DRONES, IT'S PROJECTED AGIRULCTURE COULD BECOME A MAIN USER OF THE UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLES, OR UAVS.
IT'S ALSO STIRRING DEBATE ON THE NEGATIVE AFFECTS THESE COULD HAVE ON FARMERS AND RANCHERS.

MOORE, OKLAHOMA:

AMONGST THE RUBBLE OF MOORE, OKLAHOMA, THERE IS 'SOME' GOOD NEWS. OFFICIALS HAVE LOWERED THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO DIED IN MONDAY'S DEVASTATING STORM.
EARLY YESTERDAY, THE DEATH TOLL WAS AS HIGH AS 51, BUT IT WAS LOWERED TO 24, INCLUDING NINE CHILDREN. THEY WERE LOWERED WHEN IT WAS DETERMINED SOME OF THE VICTIMS WERE COUNTED TWICE. HOWEVER, THOSE NUMBERS COULD CONTINUE TO CHANGE.  ONE THING IS CERTAIN IS THE SHEAR POWER OF THE TWISTER AT ABOUT 200 MILES AN HOUR. HOSPITAL OFFICIALS SAY THEY'VE TREATED MORE THAN 200 PATIENTS, INCLUDING OVER 70 CHILDREN, SINCE A TORNADO RIPPED THROUGH THE OKLAHOMA CITY SUBURB.
