SPRING SNOW:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. HEADING INTO THE THIRD DAY OF MAY AND PARTS OF THE COUNTRY ARE FACING A HISTORC SNOW STORM.

DROUGHT MONITOR:

MEANWHILE THE LATEST DROUGHT MONITOR SHOWS RECENT RAINS ARE HAVING AN IMPACT. THE OVERALL DROUGHT COVERAGE IN THE LOWER 48 STATES IS NOW DOWN 14 PERCENTAGE POINTS SINCE THE BEGINNING OF 2013 AND DOWN NEARLY 19 POINTS FROM THE RECORD HIGH FROM LAST SEPTEMBER. HOWEVER, THE FOOTPRINT SHIFTED SOUTH AND WEST DURING THE WEEK, INTENSIFYING IN SOUTHEAST COLORADO, WESTERN KANSAS, THE TEXAS PANHANDLE AND NEW MEXICO.

CALIFORNIA FIRE

OUT WEST, DRY CONDITIONS IN CALIFORNIA MATCHED WITH HEAVY WINDS ARE CREATING FAVORABLE CONDITIONS FOR WILDFIRES. MORE THAN 400 FIREFIGHTERS ARE BATTLING SPRING BLAZES IN PARTS OF CALIFORNIA. THIS WILDFIRE IS LOCATED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, JUST EAST OF L.A.. OTHER FIRES ARE SPARKING UP IN WINE COUNTRY NORTH OF SAN FRANCISCO.

OKLAHOMA WHEAT TOUR:

FROM DROUGHT TO FREEZING TEMPERATURES, THE OKLAHOMA WHEAT CROP IS ALL BUT LIMPING TOWARD THE FINISH LINE. THE LATEST ESTIMATES FROM THE OKLAHOMA GRAIN AND FEED ASSOICATION'S ANNUAL MEETING PUT THE SOONER STATE'S WHEAT CROP AT JUST 45 PERCENT OF WHAT IT WAS LAST YEAR. OKLAHOMA WHEAT FARMERS ARE EXPECTED TO HARVEST 85 MILLION BUSHELS THIS YEAR. THAT PENCILS OUT TO YIELDS AT ROUGHLY 25 BUSHELS PER ACRE.
