Dairy Title Divides Minnesota Farmers

April 30, 2012
By: Jim Dickrell, Dairy Today Editor

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports on how the dairy title of the pending farm bill has divided Minnesota dairy farmers. At issue: The market stabilization program, which would require producers who voluntarily sign up to cut production during times of low margins.

The Minnesota Milk Producers Association opposes any type of supply control, as do some state processors such as Davisco Foods and First District Association. Conversely, some of the state’s largest dairy co-ops, such as Land O’Lakes and Dairy Farmers of America, support the program.
