These estimates are based on the  latest varietal or class survey data available. These end-of-season  percentages will be used during the 2013 forecast season. However, if an  unusual situation significantly distorts a State's usual distribution, then  updated percentages will be used to forecast the production by class. (Note:  The Idaho, Oregon, and Washington percentages are based on their estimates of  production by class.) Winter Wheat Head Population  The National Agricultural Statistics Service conducted objective yield  surveys in 10 winter wheat estimating States during 2012. Randomly selected  plots in winter wheat fields were visited monthly from May through harvest to  obtain specific counts and measurements. Data in this table are actual field  counts from this survey.
