With more than 7,000 downloads, the Mix Tank app for iPhone was deemed a success, but users had several suggestions for improvement. Precision Laboratories listened, and they announced the debut of Mix Tank 2.0 today. It is available for free download on the Android Market and iPhone app store.
Vice president of agricultural chemistries Jim Reiss explains how the ever-increasing complexity of today’s tankmixes makes the app a valuable resource in the field.
"We’re way beyond just adding one or two products to the tankmix," he says. "When we add just three products to the mix, there are six possible mixing sequences. When we a fourth product to a tankmix, now we’re at 24 possible mixing sequences. And if we add a fifth, the number jumps to 120 options. Unfortunately, 119 of them could be problematic."
Applicators simply select each of the products they want to combine, and the app will calculate the recommended mixing sequence for them. This can help applicators avoid what Reiss calls "$10,000 mistakes." The database includes more than 900 crop protection products from more than 17 manufacturers. Mixing orders can contain up to 19 products from any of the following:
- Herbicides (includes PGRs and Defoliants)
- Fungicides (includes Bactericides)
- Insecticides (includes Miticides and IGRs)
- Adjuvants
- Foliar Nutrition
Farmers can also set up custom spray logs and take notes about each of their fields for more accurate record-keeping. There is also a new weather integration feature that stores wind speed and direction, temperature and other weather conditions in the spray logs.
