Success Stories from across America confirm Headline pays in corn and soybeans
It turns out the payoff for keeping plants healthy and stress-free all season is bigger than you might think! There’s a strong return on investment when you count on Headline® fungicide for exceptional foliar diseases control. Even when disease symptoms are not immediately visible, there are low-level or sub-clinical diseases working under the canopy and inside the plant to take their toll on yield and quality.
The bottom line is clear: Headline pays. But you don’t have to take our word for it – check out what these corn and soybean growers had to say about Headline fungicide.
“Our neighbor has a helicopter and does crop spraying. Last year he asked me if he could do some test plots on some of our corn. He wanted me to see a product that he really liked, and said it could give me 20 bushels more per acre. I told him to go ahead. It turned out to be Headline fungicide. And it did exactly what he said it would. The yield on the Headline plots was around 170 bushels average, while everywhere else the yield dropped down to about 150. Also the Headline corn was taller and healthier. It had better standability by far. Headline made the difference. I plan to use Headline again this year. I’m sold on it.”
– Larry Enz, St. Peter, Minnesota
“I used Headline in 2005 and we placed second in the National Corn Growers Association yield contest. We picked just over 267 bushels per acre. That was on non-irrigated ridge-till corn where we used Headline fungicide. I estimate the Headline gave us an extra 12 bushels per acre, although we didn’t have actual side-by-side tests. We also applied Headline last year to some of our soybeans, and yielded an average 70 bushels. This was about six to seven bushels more per acre than we got with the rest of our beans. What’s my reaction? Well, I’ve ordered a lot more Headline this year. I’m extremely happy with it. With the good results I got from Headline fungicide in my corn and soybeans, I plan to use it on a regular basis from now on, just like spraying herbicides for weeds. Healthy plants are what gives you your yield. The healthier your stalk is, the more yield you get. Where we used Headline, we could see the difference. The corn was taller and stayed green longer. Our county agronomist said we should be cutting for silage instead of shelling it.”

“We had been having problems with target spot in our soybeans and were looking for a way to fight the disease problem. We grow seed for Southern States, and quality is a big issue. Then in 2005 we heard about a product that might work for us. It was Headline fungicide. We tried it and really liked it. We saw a drastic improvement in our yield and the crop’s health too. Where the Headline was sprayed we picked 40 bushels acre on the yield monitor. Where the aerial applicator missed a corner, we got only 25 bushels. The seed production manager was really impressed at the quality difference he saw with Headline. I truly think it would pay to spray every acre of my beans with Headline. That’s what I’m going to do this year.”
– William Tankard, Bath, North Carolina
“Last year we applied Headline to all of our corn acres for the first time. We had seen a considerable increase in soybean yields with Headline. It worked as well on the corn as in the soybeans. It keeps the corn healthier, and that contributes to more yield.”
- Bobby Woodall, Dechard, Tennessee
“We have been interested in fungicides because of the threat of Asian soybean rust coming up from South America. Last year we went to a grower meeting where BASF presented a program on Headline. We grow seed for two different seed producers, so we inquired about putting in a Headline test in the 2005 crop year. We saw an increase of 4.9 bushels per acre where we used Headline on full-season soybeans compared to a check. We also got a gain on double-cropped beans. The most important benefit, though, was better quality. We will definitely put in a substantial amount of soybean acreage this year treated with Headline, and will do the same on corn.”
– Buster Manning, Manning Brothers Farms, Pantego, North Carolina
“We have a lot of humidity and fungal problems in the summer, such as gray leafspot, which is a big threat in our area. Then we saw some data that showed real potential for Headline on corn. So we put in a thirty-acre Headline test plot in 2005. The test showed visible change in the stalk where plant health was improved, and I think our yield was fourteen bushels higher where we used the Headline. The bottom line is we saw some pretty amazing benefits in corn, and significant differences in soybeans as well. I think farmers have been traditionally more concerned with yield. But in our operation we’re starting to see through marketing that quality is an important component for having a good crop to sell, with even a premium in some cases. There’s no doubt in my mind that Headline pays off in this regard in our corn and soybeans.”
– Maurice Manning, Manning Brothers Farms, Pantego, North Carolina
“I must have been like an ostrich with my head in the sand regarding foliar disease. For a number of years I’ve noticed just a few specks on my corn, soybeans or wheat, and didn’t realize it could hurt me that bad on my yields. Then last year when I ran a Headline fungicide test, I found out I hadn’t been paying close enough attention to some of the diseases that have attacked my soybeans and corn. After harvest, I was absolutely shocked at the tremendous results from the fungicide in the test, and I would never want to grow soybeans or corn again without using Headline. After I put in a Headline fungicide test on corn and soybeans last year, I could ride by the field and spot the difference compared to where it wasn’t used. But when I actually got into the field, the improvement in the leaves of the corn and soybeans was dramatic. But the big thing for me was harvest results. I did a precision test and measured the yield very accurately. We discovered a 20 bushel increase on corn with Headline and a good increase on soybeans. We will continue to use Headline not only for protection but also for higher yields.”
- H. A. Respess, Plymouth, North Carolina
