No farmer can grow a crop without water, yet this resource is sometimes taken for granted. However, farmers with irrigated ground are managing those acres more efficiently with smart irrigation practices.
Now, an industry-wide initiative seeks to increase public awareness of the value of water-use efficiency during summer's peak demand. To date, a total of 11 states and six municipalities have declared July as Smart Irrigation Month.
Colorado, Louisiana and the City and County of Denver made the initial declarations in May. Since that time, nine more states and five more municipalities have joined the list of supporters.
