TODAY ON AGDAY

APRIL 18, 2014

AMERICAN COUNTRYSIDE:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WELCOME TO THIS SPECIAL EDITION OF AGDAY. TODAY, WE'RE OPENING UP THE AGDAY FILES AND BRINGING YOU SOME OF OUR FAVORITE RECENT STORIES, AS WELL AS A FEW YOU'VE NEVER SEEN.

FARM BROTHERS:

THERE'S BEEN A BIG MOVEMENT WITHIN AGRICULTURE FOR FARMERS TO BE THEIR OWN ADVOCATES.  ONE FIFTH GENERATION FAMILY IN KANSAS IS DOING JUST THAT. AND IT'S THEIR HOMEGROWN SUCCESS THAT'S STRIKING A CHORD WITH WEB USERS ACROSS THE GLOBE.

RAILROAD SHORTAGE:

THERE'S NO DENYING THIS WINTER HAS BEEN BRUTAL, ESPECIALLY FOR THE NATION'S RAILWAYS.  GRAIN ELEVATORS - ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTHERN PLAINS - ARE HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME SHIPPING GRAIN. MICK KEHR OF KVLY TELLS US WHY GRAIN TRAINS ARE HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE THIS YEAR.

SUNSPOTS:

FOR MANY OF US, IT SEEMED LIKE THE WINTER THAT WOULD NEVER END.  BUT IS THIS SOME TYPE OF LONG-TERM PATTERN?  MIKE HOFFMAN SAYS IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE SCIENCE BEHIND SUN SPOTS.

FARM FAVORITES:

IF YOU'RE STILL LOOKING FOR SOMETHING SWEET TO SERVE ON EASTER SUNDAY, THIS FROM THE FARM FAVORITES RECIPE MAY SUIT YOUR TASTE.

BARNS:

WE'RE OFF TO THE DAIRY STATE FOR TODAY'S GREAT AMERICAN BARN. AL PELL HAS A BIT OF HISTORY FROM THIS CENTURY FARM.
