TODAY ON AGDAY

AUGUST 29, 2014

OPEN HEADLINES:

COMING UP TODAY ON AGDAY - -THIS IS GOING TO BE BIG. TAKING A CLOSER LOOK AT THE 2014 PROFARMER MIDWEST CROPTOUR... THERE COULD BE A RECORD BREAKING CROP, BUT ARE ELEVATORS PREPARED? I'M BETSY JIBBEN, WE'LL HAVE MORE AHEAD ON AGDAY. IN AGRIBUSINESS..PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER... BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE LOW NUMBERS EITHER. CONSISTANTLY 190 TO 230. PLUS, HOW MUCH DOUBLE-EARED CORN IS REALLY SHOWING UP THROUGHOUT THE CORN BELT? AND AN ANALYST FROM OVERSEES EXPERIENCES SCOUTING ON AMERICAN SOILS. I LOVE SPEAKING WITH AMERICAN FARMERS. VERY KIND AND VERY OPEN... AGDAY BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE ALL NEW CHEVY SILVERADO. 2014 NORTH AMERICAN TRUCK OF THE YEAR...

OVERVIEW SCENE SETTER:

CLINTON…GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. FROM GRAIN TRADERS TO GOVERNMENT ECONOMISTS, THE EXPECTATION IS THAT AMERICAN FARMERS GREW RECORD CORN AND SOYBEAN CROPS THIS YEAR. AND THE PROFARMER MIDWEST CROP TOUR SEEMS TO BACK-UP THOSE CLAIMS. ...AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.

CROP TOUR NUMBERS CORN:

SO WHERE DID THE 2014 MIDWEST CROP TOUR FINISH ON ESTIMATES? FOR CORN THE PROFARMER TEAM ANTICIPATING A NATIONAL YIELD OF 169 BUSHELS TO THE ACRE MAKING A TOTAL CROP OF JUST OVER 14 BILLION BUSHELS. THAT'S JUST SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN USDA'S EXPECTATIONS.

WRAP UP:

"THE EASTERN BELT WAS HELPING TO PULL THINGS UP. PLUS ERASED BOTTOM END YIELDS IN EASTERN CORN BELT AS WELL. OVER IN WESTERN BELT, IT'S MORE OF A CASE OF PUSHING UP AVERAGE YIELD INSTEAD OF PULLING IT UP WITH THOSE BIG YIELDS,"OHIO HAD VERY STRONG YIELD CALCULATIONS COMING OUT OF THERE. THE CROP WAS IMMATURE. INDIANA THE CROP WAS MORE MATURE AND WE HAD EVEN STRONGER YIELD CALCULATIONS. ILLINOIS WAS PHENOMENAL.. IT WAS ROCK SOLID AND STEAD. IT WAS VERY CONSISTENT. IT'S BY FAR THE MOST MATURE CROP WE'VE SAMPLED. IN IOWA, WE GET HIGHER VARIABILITY HERE."
