TODAY ON AGDAY

AUGUST 26, 2013

CROP TOUR RESULTS:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. THE 2013 PROFARMER CROP TOUR IS OFFICIALLY COMPLETE, AND THE ESTIMATES ARE IN.

PREVENTIVE PLANT:

ONE THING COMPLICATING THE PROCESS THIS YEAR IS THE HIGH NUMBER OF PREVENT PLANT ACRES. PROFARMER TOOK ONE-POINT-EIGHT MILLION OFF OF HARVESTED ACRES FOR CORN AND 800-THOUSAND HARVESTED ACRES OFF OF SOYBEANS TO REFLECT THE PREVENTED PLANT ACRES IN IOWA, MINNESOTA AND NORTH DAKOTA.

IOWA RESULTS:

OF THE CROPS GROWING IN IOWA AND MINNESOTA, SCOUTS FOUND BIG POTENTIAL.
SAMPLES IN IOWA SHOW YIELDS OF NEARLY 172 BUSHELS TO THE ACRE. THAT ABOUT 10 POINTS HIGHER THAN THE LATEST USDA ESTIMATE. FURTHER NORTH IN MINNESOTA, TEAMS COUNTED YIELDS OF 181 BUSHELS TO THE ACRE.  A FULL 15 BUSHELS HIGHER THAN USDA'S TOTAL. SOYBEAN POD COUNTS HOWEVER WERE DISMAL...WITH IOWA NUMBERS MORE THAN 20% BELOW THE CROP TOUR 3 YEAR AVERAGE.

CROP WATCH:

FOLKS OFF THE "CROP TOUR" ROUTES SAY CONDITIONS ARE ROUGH IN WESTERN ILLINOIS AND NORTHWEST WISCONSIN. MIKE HOFFMAN HAS DETAILS IN CROPWATCH, MIKE.
