TODAY ON AGDAY

AUGUST 27, 2013

DOG DAYS OF SUMMER:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. A LATE SUMMER HEATWAVE IS PUSHING INTO THE PLAINS THIS WEEK BRINGING WITH IT SCORTCHING HEAT AND LITTLE RAIN.

FARM PROGRESS:

IN DECATURE ILLINOIS, THOUSANDS WILL BE ON HAND FOR THE ANNUAL FARM PROGRESS SHOW. WHILE THE AG INDUSTRY SHOW'S OFF THE LATEST IN SEED, FARM AND EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO BE IN THE MID TO UPPER 90'S. THE HEAT IS A MIXED BLESSING FOR MANY FARMERS. HIGHER TEMPS WILL SPEED ALONG MATURITIES BUT A LACK OF RAIN COULD HURT AN ALREADY TEPID SOYBEAN CROP.

CALIFORNIA FIRE:

IN YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, DROUGHT AND HOT WEATHER HAS FIRE FIGHTERS BATTLING AN ENORMOUS BLAZE. SO FAR MORE THAN 225 SQUARE MILES HAVE BURNED--CONTAINMENT IS ESTIMATED AT JUST 7 PERCENT. CREWS INCLUDE, NEARLY 20 AIRCRAFT AND 28-HUNDRED FIRE FIGHTERS WORKING TO GET IT UNDER CONTROL. THERE'S CONCERN THE FIRE AND ASH COULD IMPACT THE DRINKING WATER FOR THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO.

CROP WATCH:

SPEAKING OF WATER - IF YOU'RE HEADED TO THE FARM PROGRESS, BE SURE TO TAKE PLENTY OF WATER. MIKE HOFFMAN HAS DETAILS IN CROPWATCH. GOOD MORNING MIKE.
