TODAY ON AGDAY
FEBRUARY 26, 2013

WINTER STORM TWO:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. THEY'RE USING WORDS LIKE 'CRIPPLING' AND 'HISTORIC' TO DESCRIBE THE POWERFUL WINTER STORM THAT'S MAKING ITS WAY ACROSS THE PLAINS. AND ERICA GOSS - OUR REGIONAL REPORTER IN LUBBOCK - STEPPED OUT OF HER HOME TO GET SOME FOOTAGE OF HER NEIGHBORHOOD. THE CONDITIONS WERE NOT AS INTENSE AS AMARILLO WHEN SHE CAPTURED THIS FOOTAGE. LUBBOCK TYPICALLY DOESN'T GET A WHOLE LOT OF SNOW, SO THIS WAS A BIG WEATHER EVENT FOR THAT AREA. THE ROADS WERE SLUSHY AND FREEZING TEMPERATURES WERE EXPECTED LAST NITE AND EARLY THIS MORNING.

CROP WATCH:

THE STORM EXPANDED ACROSS KANSAS AND INTO PARTS OF MISSOURI. THIS WAS THE SECOND MAJOR STORM IN LESS THAN A WEEK WITH WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AND DRIFTING SNOW. OF COURSE THE HOPE IS THAT THIS SNOW HAS A NICE SLOW MELTOFF AND SEEPS INTO THE GROUND. HOWEVER, IT'S STILL A LONG WAY TO RECOVER FROM THE DROUGHT. MIKE HOFFMAN CONTINUES TO TRACK THE STORM FROM THE AGDAY WEATHER-CENTER, MIKE.

COMMODITY CLASSIC:

SEVERAL GROWERS AND AG LEADERS ARE ESCAPING THE HISTORIC WINTER WEATHER THIS WEEK. THEY'RE HEADED TO FLORIDA FOR THE 2013 COMMODITY CLASSIC. WITH PENDING BUDGET CUTS AND THE NEED FOR A NEW FARM BILL, EACH COMMODITY GROUP'S AGENDA IS LOADED IN 2013.

DAIRY SEQUESTRATION:

IN OUR DAIRY TODAY REPORT, ALL EYES ARE ON WASHINGTON AS THE AUTOMATIC SPENDING CUTS KNOWN AS SEQUESTRATION TOP THE HORIZON.THOSE KICK IN STARTING MARCH FIRST.

DAIRY ENROLLMENTS:

MANY OF OUR NATION'S YOUNGSTERS ARE EAGERLY AWAITING COLLEGE LETTERS. AS WE'VE REPORTED ENROLLMENTS IN AG SCHOOLS IS UP ACROSS THE NATION. THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE AND LIFE SCIENCES ON THE UW CAMPUS IN MADISON HAS ALSO SEEN AN INCREASE IN ENROLLMENT. AS THE WISCONSIN DAIRY NEWS TELLS US SOME OF THE AREAS EXPANDING ARE SURPRISING.
