COLD WHEAT:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WEATHER EXTREMES ARE TOUGH AND CROPS AND CATTLE ALIKE.

FSA SIGNUP:

USDA SAYS FARMERS NEED TO MARK THEIR CALENDARS FOR FEBRUARY 19TH. THAT'S WHEN THE FARM SERVICE AGENCY WILL BEGIN SIGN-UPS FOR THE DIRECT AND COUNTER-CYCLICAL PAYMENT PROGRAM AND THE AVERAGE CROP REVENUE ELECTION PROGRAM. THE PROGRAMS WERE EXTENDED AS PART OF THE FARM BILL EXTENSION. THE PROVISIONS ARE GENERALLY THE SAME AS IN 2012. HOWEVER ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS MAY CHOOSE TO ENROLL IN EITHER DCP OR ACRE FOR THE 2013 CROP YEAR. THE DCP SIGN-UP WILL END ON AUGUST 2ND. THE ACRE SIGN-UP WILL END ON JUNE 3RD.

FARM BILL:

THE HOUSE AG COMMITTEE MET FORMALLY WEDNESDAY. THAT'S GOOD NEWS FOR FARMERS HOPING TO SEE A NEW FARM BILL. BECAUSE CONGRESS DIDN'T FINISH ITS WORK IN 2012, FARMERS WILL BE OPERATING UNDER MOSTLY THE SAME POLICIES THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING FROM SINCE 2008. LSU AGCENTER CORRESPONDENT TOBIE BLANCHARD HAS THE STORY.

CROP WATCH:

IT'S COLD AND IT'S DRY. NOT A GOOD COMBINATION. MIKE HOFFMAN JOINS US FROM THE AGDAY WEATHERCENTER FOR CROPWATCH.

PEANUTS:

NEAR PERFECT WEATHER CONDITIONS HELPED GENERATE A BIG PEANUT CROP. NOW THE QUESTION IS - WILL THAT IMPACT HOW MANY ACRES GET PLANTED THIS YEAR.
