TODAY ON AGDAY

JUNE 14, 2013

BORDER SECURITY:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. IMMIGRATION REFORM HITS A SNAG AS THE SENATE DEBATES BORDER SECURITY. AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.

IMMIGRATION REFORM:

GRASSLEY'S AMMENDMENT WAS THE FIRST OF DOZENS WHICH WILL RECEIVE DEBATE ON THE SENATE FLOOR. GRASSLEY SAYS IT'S NOW CLEAR THE METHODOLIGY FOR IMMIGRATION REFORM IS LEGALIZE FIRST, ENFORCE LATER.

MIDWEST STORMS:

A HARD CHARGING STORM MOVED ACROSS THE "EYE" STATES WEDNESDAY WITH 50-TO-60 MILE AN HOUR WINDS, NUMEROUS REPORTS OF FUNNEL CLOUDS AND LARGE HAIL. THE STORM PREDICTION GOT OUT AHEAD OF THE STORM, EXPECTING THE LINE OF STORMS MAY CREATE A DERECHO, BUT IT NEVER DEVELOPED, AT LEAST TWO TORNADOES TOUCHED DOWN IN NORTHERN IOWA THURSDAY AS A MASSIVE STORM PUSHEED ACROSS THE MIDWEST TOWARDS THE MID-ATLANTIC STATES. EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OFFICIALS SAY AT LEAST TWO BUSINESSES AND A HOME WERE DESTROYED IN FRANKLIN COUNTY, IOWA. NEIGHBORING WRIGHT COUNTY WAS ALSO HIT. BUT THERE WERE NO REPORTS OF INJURIES OR DEATHS.  THE FAMILY WHO LIVES THERE SAYS THEY ARE QUITE SHAKEN UP BUT THANKFUL FOR THE SUPPORT THEY'RE GETTING FROM THE COMMUNITY.

DROUGHT MONITOR:

RECENT RAINS HELPED IMPROVE DROUGHT CONDITIONS IN SOME AREAS, BUT THE WEST CONTINUES ITS DRY TREND. HERE'S THE LATEST DROUGHT MONITOR. CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS SAW THE HOT AND DRY PATTERN CONTINUE IN SOME PORTIONS OF THE STATE THIS WEEK, WITH TEMPS REACHING 112 DEGREES IN RED BLUFF, CALIFORNIA. THERE'S A GLIMMER OF HOPE IN TEXAS, AS THE DROUGHT MONITOR SHOWS MINOR IMPROVEMENTS IN THE TEXAS PANHANDLE FROM MODERATE RAINFALL.
