TODAY ON AGDAY

JUNE 5, 2013

GE WHEAT SUIT:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. THE GMO WHEAT FOUND ON AN OREGON FARM FIELD IS HEADED FOR COURT. THE FIRST LAWSUIT HAS NOW BEEN FILED IN THE CASE. AGDAY ASKED MONSANTO ABOUT THE LAWSUIT.  IT SAYS THE COMPANY HAS PROVIDED TESTING METHODS FOR THE ROUND UP READY WHEAT TRAIT TO THE USDA, JAPAN, KOREA, TAIWAN AND THE E.U. PER REQUESTS. IT ALSO SAYS THE COMPANY'S PROCESS FOR CLOSING OUT ITS ORIGINAL WHEAT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM WAS GOVERNMENT DIRECTED, RIGOROUS, WELL DOCUMENTED AND AUDITED. NEITHER SEED LEFT IN THE SOIL OR WHEAT POLLEN SERVE AS AN EXPLANATION TO THESE RECENT FINDINGS. MONSANTO SAYS GIVEN THE CARE UNDERTAKEN, NO LEGAL LIABILITY EXISTS AND THE COMPANY WILL PRESENT A VIGOROUS DEFENSE.

SOUTH KOREA:

MEANWHILE, SOUTH KOREA SAYS IT HAS NOT DETECTED ANY GMO WHEAT IN ITS INITIAL TESTING OF GRAIN AND FLOUR FROM OREGON. ACCORDING TO REUTERS, KOREAN MILLERS SUSPENDED IMPORTS LAST WEEK UNTIL GOVERNEMENT TESTS COULD BE DONE.

SURFACE MOISTURE:

DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU FARM IN THE GREAT PLAINS - YOUR FIELDS COULD BE PARCHED OR SATURATED, OR MAYBE SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN. WE HAVE TWO REPORTS THIS MORNING THAT COVER BOTH EXTREMES. THIS MAP FROM "NASA" CLEARLY ILLUSTRATES THE CHALLENGES. THE BLUE IN NORTH DAKOTA SHOWS HOW MUCH OF THE STATE HAS SURFACE WATER.  AND DUE SOUTH IN THE TEXAS PANHANDLE, WE SEE NOTHING BUT BROWN.

DRY TEXAS:

IN TEXAS, FARMERS ARE CHANGING 'HOW' THEY FARM IN ORDER TO SURVIVE. NATIONAL REPORTER TYNE MORGAN TAKES US TO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE WHERE THE DROUGHT IS STILL NOT RELEASING IT'S POWERFUL GRIP AFTER THREE YERS.
