TODAY ON AGDAY

MARCH 1, 2013

COMMODITY CLASSIC:

GOOD MORNING I'M TYNE MORGAN IN FOR CLINTON GRIFFITHS WHO'S ON ASSIGNMENT AT THE 2013 COMMODITY CLASSIC. AN IMPROVED MOISTURE SITUATION IS SETTING A BETTER TONE AMONG ROW CROP PRODUCERS. AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

CHANGE IN THE WORLD'S ECONOMIC CLASS WILL ALTER WHAT U.S. FARMERS WILL BE PRODUCING IN THE FUTURE. THAT'S THE OUTLOOK FROM ONE OF THE KEYNOTE SPEAKERS AT THE BAYER CROP SCIENCE AG ISSUES FORUM WHICH WAS HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH COMMODITY CLASSIC.

TUMBLEWEED:

THE POWERFUL STORM SYSTEM THAT BROUGHT 19 INCHES OF SNOW TO THE TEXAS PANHANDLE WAS PACKING A LOT OF WIND. AND IT DELIVERED SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TO A HOMEOWNER IN WEST TEXS. 60-MILE AN HOUR WINDS PUSHED HUNDREDS OF TUMBLEWEEDS AGAINST A HOME IN MIDLAND, TEXAS. HOMEOWNER JOSH PITMAN SHOT VIDEO ON HIS IPHONE. TUMBLEWEEDS WERE STACKED ONE ATOP THE OTHER, BLOCKING SOME DOORWAYS. PITMAN SAYS HE RECENTLY TORE DOWN A FENCE THAT WOULD HAVE PROTECTED HIS HOME FROM THE RAMBLING WEEDS.

CROP WATCH:

CLINTON IS, INDEED, ON THE JOB IN FLORIDA. HE VISITED THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA CITRUS RESEARCH CENTER IN LAKE ALFRED. RESEARCHERS ARE TELLING CLINTON THAT IT'S BEEN A WARM DRY WINTER. SO FAR WEATHER IS HAVING LESS IMPACT ON ORANGE YIELDS THAN THE CITRUS GREENING EPIDEMIC SWEEPING THE STATE. HE'LL HAVE A STORY ABOUT THAT RESEARCH NEXT WEEK. AND WE'RE STILL GETTING PLENTY OF PHOTOS SHOWING THE AFTERMATH OF THE RECENT SNOWSTORMS IN THE CENTRAL U-S. THIS ONE CAME FROM LINDSEY BENNE WHO IS THE FARM JOURNAL ART DIRECTOR. THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN NEAR MEXICO, MISSOURI. LAST WEEK, THEY GOT TEN INCHES OF SNOW. AND THE MOST RECENT STORM BROUGHT SIX MORE. OBVIOUSLY IT MAKES LIFE A BIT MORE CHALLENGING WHEN FEEDING THE HERD.
