SEQUESTER CUTS:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. DETAILS CONTINUE TO ROLL OUT REGARDING THE IMPACTS OF WASHINGTON'S SEQUESTRATION CUTS. AND NOW IT LOOKS LIKE FARMERS PAYMENTS ARE NEXT IN LINE.

FSIS AMENDMENT:

AND SPEAKING OF THOSE MEAT INSPECTOR FURLOUGHS. IT MIGHT NOT HAPPEN AFTERALL.
BY VOICE VOTE, THE SENATE APPROVED AN AMENDMENT TO A SPENDING BILL TO KEEP THE INSPECTORS OPERATING. THE AMENDMENT TRANSFERS 55 MILLION DOLLARS IN USDA FUNDS IN ORDER TO KEEP WORKERS ON THE JOB.

MILK PRODUCTION:

THE LATEST USDA MILK NUMBERS REVEALED A BIT OF A SURPRISE - A REDUCTION IN PRODUCTION, ESPECIALLY IN THE TOP MILK PRODUCING STATE.

NEW MEXICO HORSE SLAUGHTER:

A NEW MEXICO BUSINESS, VALLEY MEAT COMPANY NEAR ROSWELL, SAYS THEY'RE PLANNING TO OPEN THE NATIONS FIRST HORSE SLAUGHTERHOUSE. IT WOULD BE THE FIRST TO PROCESS HORSES SINCE 2007 WHEN CONGRESS SHUT OFF FUNDING FOR INSPECTORS. THE OWNER SAYS HE THINKS VALLEY MEAT WILL EVENTUALLY EMPLOY ABOUT 100 PEOPLE. BY THE WAY MIKE, EXPORTS OF LIVE HORSES ARE UP SIX TIMES WHAT IT WAS A DECADE AGO.
