PLANTING INTENTIONS:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. IT'S TOO COLD FOR MIDWEST FARMERS TO BE HITTING THE FIELDS, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN MOST DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING IN THE GROUND.

AGWEB SOYBEANS:

IN ADVANCE OF THE PLANTING INTENTIONS REPORT, OUR PARTNERS AT AGWEB ARE COMPILING AN ASSORTMENT OF NEWS STORIES AND ANALYSIS THAT GIVE AN INDICATION OF WHAT WE MIGHT SEE FROM THOSE USDA REPORTS.

SOUTHERN PLANTING:

CORN PLANTING HAS STARTED ACROSS THE SOUTH. IN TEXAS ABOUT HALF OF THE CORN IS PLANTED. MISSISSIPPI IS IN THE TEENS. GEORGIA FARMERS HAVE JUST STARTED WITH FIVE PERCENT SEEDED. IN LOUISIANA ABOUT 60-PERCENT IS PLANTED, EASILY DOUBLE THE AVERAGE PACE. STILL, FREQUENT RAINS IN LOUISIANA THIS WINTER PUT SOME FARMERS BEHIND.

WEED WARRIOR:

TO CONTROL THE INSECTS THAT LEVY MENTIONED, FARMERS ALSO NEED TO CONTROL WEEDS WHICH PROVIDE SAFE HAVEN FOR PESTS.  ALL ACROSS FARM COUNTRY GROWERS ARE BATTLING INCREASED WEED PRESSURES. OVER THE NEXT THREE DAYS WE'RE GOING TO VISIT THE FRONT LINES OF THIS BATTLE - LOOKING AT RESEARCH FROM LAND GRANT SCHOOLS. WE BEGIN WITH THE EXPERTS AT LSU AGCENTER. HERE'S TOBIE BLANCHARD.
