FARM BILL:

GOOD MORNING I'M TYNE MORGAN IN FOR CLINTON GRIFFITHS. TWO MAJOR PIECES OF LEGISLATION THAT DIRECTLY IMPACT AMERICA'S FARMERS AND RANCHERS ARE TAKING CENTER STAGE THIS WEEK IN THE SENATE.

DAIRY POLICY:

ONE ASPECT OF THE FARM BILL INVOLVES REVISING DAIRY POLICY IN THIS COUNTRY. THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT PROGRAMS BEING OFFERED IN THE HOUSE VERSION OF THE FARM BILL. ONE IS THE DAIRY SECURITY ACT OR D-S-A. AND THE OTHER IS THE DAIRY FREEDOM ACT, OR DFA. SCOTT BROWN - WHO IS AN AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIST AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI - ANALYZED BOTH PROGRAMS.

IMMIGRATION:

THE CONTENTIOUS IMMIGRATION BILL ISN'T MOVING NEARLY AS QUICKLY. AIDES TO SENATOR CHUCK GRASSLEY - WHO IS THE RANKING REPUBLICAN ON THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE - SAYS THE MARK-UP WILL LIKELY RUN INTO NEXT WEEK.

PLANTING PROGRESS:

FARMERS ALONG INTERSTATE 80 - AND OTHER PARTS OF THE MIDWEST - MADE SOME PROGRESS LAST WEEK WITH THEIR PLANTING. WE'LL GIVE YOU A FINAL WRAP-UP OF THIS YEARS I-80 PLANTING TOUR IN A MOMENT. BUT FIRST, LET'S CHECK THE STATUS ON SOME OTHER MAJOR CROPS.
