FARM BILL:

AS THE HOUSE AND SENATE VERSION OF the FARM BILL IS PASSED FROM COMMITTEE TO THE FLOOR, WE'RE STILL THUMBING THROUGH THE DETAILS TO SEE HOW EACH VERSION MATCHES UP....AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.

TEXAS RICE:

RICE PRODUCERS MAY BE SAYING GOOD-BYE TO DIRECT PAYMENTS, BUT RAISES THE TARGET PRICE FOR SOME CROPS, INCLUIDNG RICE.  ANOTHER STRUGGLE FOR TEXAS RICE FARMERS IS BEING CUTT OFF FROM A VITAL RESOURCE THIS YEAR. TEXAS FARM BUREAU'S DON KYSER SHOWS US THE RIPPLE EFFECTS THIS COULD HAVE ON THE LONE-STAR ECONOMY.

WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT ACT:

THE SENATE PASSED THE WATER RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT ACT THIS WEEK. THE ACT THAT WILL HELP IMPROVE INFRASTRUCTURE ON WATERWAYS, WILL ALSO SAVE FARMERS FROM A COSTLY REGULATION. AN AMENDMENT WITHIN THE BILL WILL NOW EXCLUDE MANY FARMERS AND RANCHERS FROM EPA'S SPILL, PREVENTION, CONTROL AND COUNTERMEASURE RULE. THE RULE THAT PUTS REGULATIONS ON FARMS THAT STORE OIL IN ABOVEGROUND TANKS. THE AMENDMENT RAISED THE MINIMUM LEVEL OF STORAGE IMPACTED BE THE RULE. EPA'S SPILL RULE WAS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED TO GO INTO AFFECT IN MAY. AGDAY TALKED TO ONE FARMER WHO SAYS IT'S AN EXPENSIVE REGULATION.

TEXAS TORNADO:

THE HEAT WAVE THAT'S BEEN HOVERING OVER MUCH OF THE U-S THIS WEEK IS ALSO STIRRING UP SPRING STORMS.
