TODAY ON AGDAY

OCTOBER 22, 2013

CROP PROGRESS:

AS THE HUM RETURNS TO WASHINGTON AND THE USDA, WE GET OUR FIRST LOOK AT CROP PROGRESS IN MORE THAN TWO WEEKS.

SUGARBEET HARVEST:

IN THE RED RIVER VALLEY OF EASTERN NORTH DAKOTA AND WESTERN MINNESITA, THE SUGAR BEET HARVEST GOT UNDER WAY TWO WEEKS AGO. AND MANY FARMERS HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH A LOT OF WET FIELDS. MICK CARE FROM AGDAY AFFILIATE KVLY-TV HAS DETAILS.

CROP WATCH:

JUST ACROSS THE RED RIVER - A FARMER FROM RICHLAND COUNTY NORTH DAKOTA SAYS THEY GOT ANOTHER INCH OF RAIN THIS WEEKEND ON TOP OF THE 11 INCHES WE HAVE HAD IN THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS. ONLY FARMERS IN SANDY SOIL OR HAVING TRACK EQUIPMENT ARE GOING. FARMERS LOOKING FOR A HARD FREEZE IN THE UPPER MIDWEST SHOULD SEE IT THIS WEEK. NOT ONLY COLDER TEMPS, BUT SNOW. BEV VOL-PONE FROM DANBURY, WISCONSIN SHARED THIS PHOTO. THEY SAW ABOUT TWO INCHES OF SNOW ON MONDAY.

AND IN DALLAS COUNTY IOWA, A FARMER WRITES ON AGWEB THAT -HE WENT BACK AND REFIGURED BEAN YIELDS AFTER THE GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN ENDED--AND GUESS WHAT...THEY ARE STILL BAD. HIS BEAN YIELDS SHOW NOTHING OVER 42 AND MOST IN THE LOW TO MID 30'S. PERHAPS THERE'S A BIT OF SARCASM IN THAT POST.
