TODAY ON AGDAY

OCTOBER 8, 2013

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. AS A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN STRETCHES INTO WEEK TWO, NOW THE USDA SAYS IT WON'T BE RELEASING IT'S OCTOBER CROP PRODUCTION REPORT. NOT HAVING TIMILY DATA IS LIKELY TO IMPACT COMMODITY AND FUTURES MARKETS. THE LACK OF DAILY USDA DATA IS ALREADY SLOWING DOWN TRADE IN THE LIVESTOCK MARKETS - MAKING IT HARDER TO REACH CASH SETTLEMENTS FOR LEAN HOGS AND FEEDER CATTLE. MEANWHILE, USDA'S WEBSITE REMAINS DARK.

NO WASDE REPORTS:

ON MONDAY THE USDA CONFIRMED IT IS INDEED POSTPONING IT'S WORLD AGRICULTURAL SUPPLY AND DEMAND ESTIMATES REPORT. IT WAS SET FOR RELEASE THIS FRIDAY.

CROP PROGRESS:

ALSO IMPACTED...THE WEEKLY CROP PROGRESS REPORT.THOSE NUMBERS ARE TYPICALLY RELEASED MONDAY AFTERNOONS.

DAIRY REPORTS:

YOU MAY REMEMBER USDA STOPPED GENERATING A MONTHLY DAIRY PRODUCTION REPORT DUE TO THE SEQUESTER. BECAUSE OCTOBER FIRST BEGAN A NEW FISCAL YEAR, THAT REPORT WOULD SUPPOSED TO START-UP AGAIN. THAT REPORT SHOWS HOW MANY DAIRY COWS ARE IN PRODUCTION AND THEIR OUTPUT. BUT THAT REPORT IS ON-HOLD. AND UNLESS THE ADMINISTRATION AND CONGRESS REACH A DEAL, OTHER REPORTS - LIKE CLASS MILK PRICES - WON'T BE ISSUED EITHER.
