This summer has provided harsh conditions for your corn crop. Here’s how to tell if your corn is hanging tough or giving up.

You’re fields are looking rough, but could they still yield OK?

Farm Journal Field Agronomist Ken Ferrie says the first thing to do in your field is to see if it got pollinated. "We had to help a lot of corn get pollinated because of silk clipping. We had tremendous rootworm pressure in corn-on-corn."

If your ears were pollinated, Ferrie says to assess the uniformity of the pollination.

"Corn will tell you if it’s hanging in there or starting to give up. That will help you make future decisions such as managing aphids or spraying a fungicide."
