Automation Section Control Payback Calculator

January 26, 2012
By: Rhonda Brooks, Farm Journal Technology & Special Projects Editor

A variety of input savings is available from automated section control technology, says Brad Beutke, technical support specialist with Crop-Tech Consulting, Heyworth, Ill.

Beutke points out that farmers using automated section control benefit from fewer application overlaps, reduced seed, fertilizer and herbicide use, improved application efficiency, less operator fatigue and decreased harvest losses. The technology can also help prevent product applications in areas within fields that farmers want to avoid, such as waterways and buffer strips.

“You also get improved field aesthetics as a side benefit,” Beutke adds.

To make a quick assessment of whether automation section control is a good fit for you your farm, Beutke recommends checking out the Trimble payback calculator.
