Under Armour is known for their performance athletic gear worn by professional athletes and the regular gym-goer. However, until now they were not known for using the natural fiber of cotton for their clothing.
With the new Charged Cotton line of t-shirts and shorts for men and women, the company has incorporated natural fibers with the so-called “technical cottons.” The clothing is made by taking standard cotton fabric and infusing it with performance material.
Under Armour's Charged Cotton wicks away moisture with signature technology and dries five times faster than ordinary cotton. Made of alternating hydrophilic (moisture absorbing) and hydrophobic (moisture repelling) cotton yarns, Under Armour Charged Cotton pushes out sweat when it comes in contact with the fabric. As a result, moisture spreads across the surface area of the clothing, thus speeding evaporation and helping athletes keep cool.
A recent Cotton Incorporated survey showed that when consumers were asked whether they would purchase cotton sports apparel that offered the same performance features as Under Armour, almost all of them (97%) said they would prefer a cotton alternative or would be willing to try it.
The Charged Cotton will be available nationwide on March 12, 2011.
