Down Week for Grain Prices

With the exception of KC wheat the speculative traders were not buyers of agricultural commodities in the week ended Tuesday, March 20. 
 
In corn the NC traders bought nearly 19,000 contracts, extending their long position to nearly 198,000. The index funds were net buyers of 3,758 contracts, extending their long position to 396,521 contracts, their largest position in 10 months. 
 
In wheat the NC traders bought nearly 2,100 contracts, reducing their short position to 80,310 contracts. The index funds were net buyers of just over 2,000 contracts, extending their long position to nearly 215,000, their largest position since May-2011. In KC wheat the NC traders bought nearly 1,600 contracts, while the index funds sold nearly 3,500 contracts.
 
In soybeans the NC traders bought just over 23,000 contracts, extending their long position to 171,601, their largest position ever.  The index funds were net buyers of just over 1,000 contracts.  In soybean oil the NC traders bought just over 4,700 contracts, while the index funds sold 3,549 contracts. In soybean meal the NC traders bought just over 10,000 futures, extending their net long position to nearly 75,000 contracts, their largest position since Dec-2007.
