We clearly touched a nerve when we introduced our popular Farm Journal Corn College two summers ago. Since then, we've trained more than 1,000 farmers on the fine points of corn production. Some of the producer–students have actually participated in multiple events. They are not slow learners, they simply know we change the curriculum and keep the information cutting-edge.
We jokingly warn attendees that the Corn College experience is addictive. After just one seminar, one of my new farmer friends came right back at me: "You weren't kidding. I'll be back and keep coming back.”
Not bad for a seminar you have to pay to attend. This survey comment after the 2010 Corn College Planter Clinic says it all: "More knowledge in one day than 40 years of free meetings.”
Even more than the positive feedback, I appreciate the persistent prompting from alumni to create more hands-on trainings. Thanks to the cajoling, we're committing ourselves to hosting the following events:
- Soybean College
- Regional Planter Clinics
- Regional Wheat College events
- Corn College for Southern Growers
- Technology College
If you're wondering what the buzz is about, come see for yourself at our upcoming Farm Journal Corn College. The core curriculum is virtually the same at the two-day and one-day sessions—the longer session simply has more lighthearted time. You can learn more and register at www.FarmJournalCornCollege.com or call (515) 254-0289. If you have ideas for other trainings, ask and we'll do our best to deliver.
