While he and other members of the House Agriculture Committee complete their work, Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla., says getting a farm bill has proven challenging in 2013. "It shouldn’t be this hard to make sure everybody has enough to eat," Lucas recently told "AgriTalk." While there is a rumor that Congress might try to pass a two-year farm bill extension, Lucas says he is determined to get a full bill approved during his tenure: "If I have to ask the Republican steering committee for more time as chairman, I will." Agreement among congressional leaders and the president about key issues could expedite conference committee work, he says.
