Favorable Forecast May Spark N Demand

June 14, 2013
By: Davis Michaelsen, Pro Farmer Inputs Monitor Editor

We have been talking about supplemental nitrogen in wake of heavy Midwest rains. Ag expert Chris Barron estimates up to 60% of applied nitrogen may have been lost in the last month and this Monday's Inputs Monitor Regional Index Report may show a price response.

Last week, we observed mild increases in UAN32 while UAN28 fell slightly. If the price does not bounce Monday, prepare to book nitrogen accordingly. Growers in the Central Belt have found opportunities to roll sprayers in the last few days and the weather will spark some fresh demand as warmer conditions are expected in parts of the Midwest next week.

Stay tuned to your Inputs Monitor for a complete analysis of retail pricing action, and look for an opportunity to book supplemental N soon.
