Since 2009, the Kansas Beef Council (KBC) and Nebraska Beef Council (NBC) have provided funding and support of the nutrition and dietetics program at the New York Beef Industry Council (NYBC). As a result of this partnership, NYBC is able to maintain a staff dietitian who extends the beef message to New York's 19.5 million consumers. The total combined population of Kansas and Nebraska equal only 4.8 million.
Last month NYBC director of nutrition education Cindy Chan Phillips, a registered dietitian, was featured on WSYR Channel 9 ABC during the "Look Who's Cooking!" segment.
Another activity conducted by NYBC and the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative was the Food, Farm & Science event held last fall. Twenty-eight medical and fitness professionals from seven states attended the educational experience to learn about beef nutrition, beef culinary and preparation, and beef industry sustainability, and visit a farm.
