System Refines Potato Harvest Process

November 18, 2011
By: Margy Eckelkamp, Farm Journal Machinery Editor and Test Plot Director

With variable potato harvest, the transfer conveyors don’t always run at maximum efficiency, instead the speed is set to maximum yields to prevent clogging but can increase the rate of damage to the crop. To help make the machine more productive, Grimme introduces Speedtronic. This system uses sensors match the speed to yield and ensure each of the conveyor rungs is filled. This can lead to reduced mechanical damage to the potatoes and alleviate the operator from manually varying the conveyor speed.
