Carrying on a Legacy
The founder of Farm Journal, Wilmer Atkinson, started our magazine for farmers within a day's ride of Philadelphia by horse. Our readers stretch across the country now, but the spirit of the magazine Atkinson created is much the same. He launched a principled, practical publication "to separate the cream from the skim milk.” Today we call it service journalism, and each year we present a Wilmer Award to the staff member who best carries on our founder's legacy. Our latest recipient is Katie Humphreys. As managing editor, Katie works tirelessly to produce a magazine packed with practical information. Her strong farm roots woven with her passion for serving readers would certainly make Wilmer proud!

Memorial Day finds flags on the fence posts of Larry Moffett's Polled Hereford farm near Decatur, Ill. He also displays the flags on the Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day.

What A Day!
Sink, Sank, Sunk
Maybe this tractor needed to cool down after a strenuous day of work. Or maybe the driver lost control. Who knows? It's safe to say, though, this tractor found itself creating work instead of being helpful.
