Smartphone, Tablet Tractor Mounts

pC10 TechnologyJournal Smartphone, Tablet Tractor Mounts

Increasingly, the tractor cab is being used as a mobile office. John Deere’s new mounting brackets and attachments for smartphone and tablet devices allow business to continue as usual.

The brackets include a cell phone mount bracket kit, a tablet mount kit and an accessory mounting bracket kit. They are cross-compatible with current John Deere monitor kits and can be customized to fit each operator’s specific requirements in the cab. The cell phone kit is designed to securely hold cell phones, GPS and other devices of similar size without requiring foam pads or other stabilizing materials. The tablet kit is also designed to firmly hold devices, even in rugged terrain, and features easy-to-adjust wing nuts and ball joints that allow operators to change the position of the device as needed. For more information, contact your local John Deere dealer.

A New ‘Junction’ For Hemisphere

Hemisphere GPS Inc. is shifting its attention to focus entirely on the agricultural sector. The company has signed and closed a definitive agreement to sell all of the business assets associated with its non-agricultural operations to the Canadian subsidiary of Beijing UniStrong Science and Technology Company for nearly $15 million. These non-agricultural operations include the company’s Precision Products portfolio, along with related infrastructure.

A change this big deserves a new name, say company officials. Subject to shareholder approval in May 2013, Hemisphere plans on moving forward as AgJunction.

"The decision to divest our non-agriculture operations reflects our focus on the core platforms necessary to extend our leadership in precision agriculture," says Rick Heiniger, president and CEO. "The result is a streamlined business that can more effectively capitalize on the expanding market opportunities in agriculture."

The name and brand identity of Hemisphere would then be passed on to UniStrong, which intends to name the acquired operations "Hemisphere GNSS Inc."

Because UniStrong was already a reseller for Hemisphere, the two companies plan to continue collaborating after the transaction, including supply chain management, customer support and non-competition and perpetual technology cross-licensing.

Other than the name change and a plan to update the company’s listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange from "HEM" to "AJX," the company is planning no disruptions to its existing agriculture business. AgJunction will operate out of Hiawatha, Kan.

Electric Drive Sparks Interest in Planters

pC10 TechnologyJournal Electric Drive Sparks Interest in Planters

Precision Planting has developed the vDrive, a new electric drive system for use with 20/20 SeedSense and vSet meters, initially available for John Deere, Kinze and select models of CNH planters. Company officials say the system can replace existing clutches, hydraulic motors and chains or cable drives, and also eliminate chain or cable maintenance. Instead, an electric drive controls each row individually for more precise planting. Regardless of curves, ground speed or prescription zone, it drives each vSet meter to plant precisely to the prescribed population. SeedSense uses GPS, radar and gyro inputs for accurate calculation of each row’s velocity. The vDrive module includes an encoder and closed-loop control to help maintain accurate populations for each row in each foot of the field. For more information, visit www.precisionplanting.com.
