THIS WEEK ON U.S. FARM REPORT

EPISODE # 2126

MAY 10-11, 2014

JOHN’S OPEN:

HELLO AND WELCOME TO U-S FARM REPORT, I'M JOHN PHIPPS. WHAT USED TO BE CALLED PLANTING SEASON IS MAY NOW BE MORE ACCURATELY LABLED " THE PLANTING SPRINT" IN JUST 6 DAYS, WE PUT OUR CROP IN THE GROUND, WHEN IT USED TO TAKE 6 WEEKS. THIS MAY SOUND LIKE BRAGGING, BUT IT'S MORE A COMMENT ON THE CRUCIAL IMPORTANCE WE NOW PLACE ON TIMELINESS, AND THE SCARS THAT RECENT TOUGH SPRINGS HAVE LEFT. WE'VE SEEN WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU MISS THE ONE NARROW PLANTING WINDOW. STILL, ONE CONSEQUENCE IS TO WRING MUCH OF THE ENJOYMENT FROM THIS PART OF OUR WORK. PLANTING WAS NEVER FUN, OF COURSE, BUT IT WASN'T QUITE AS INTENSE. AND I DON'T ANTICIPATE A RETURN TO A MORE LEISURELY PACE ANYTIME SOON.

HEADLINES:
