Weed control is all about the timing and rate of herbicide application. In Episode 5 of Corn College TV Season 3, Farm Journal’s Associate Field Agronomist Missy Bauer discusses year-long management.

"The first thing we need to think about is starting clean," she says. Controlling winter annuals is the best way to kick off weed control for the summer growing season. The hotter and later it gets into the season, the less effective herbicide will be.

Bauer also notes how the spray nozzle is essential for good coverage. While timing is key, the correct rate of application will help to maintain a good yield.

She says, "If we can have season long control and keep these fields weed free enough to protect yield, that’s what we’re after."
