Spinach Search
Apr 29, 2009
I am hoping you can help me find out more about your story about the spinach farmer from Oklahoma? I walked in on the last part that was showing the harvesting of the spinach? Is there someplace to go to read the story. Very interesting since I thought this was from CA or Mexico and was hand picked. Would you know where the spinach is grown for Green Giant? Since you said this was for Popeye’s brand.
Thanks and love the show. My husband is a small beef farmer (70 head that include cows, heifers, bull, steers and calves) along with growing our own hay, corn and soybeans. We farm (150 acres and rent pasture land about 75 to 100 acres for the summer months)in Mille Lacs county north of the Twin Cities, MN.
Thanks,
Debbie & Larry Rahn
Editor's Note:...
The name of the farmer is Steve Conrad. He farms 2000 acres in the eastern Oklahoma town of Webbers Falls. He plants 300 acres of spinach for Allen's Canning, which is based in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He also grows turnips for them. This crop was planted last fall. It overwintered and was ready for cutting in March.
