KC Wheat under Pressure from Outside Markets

Sep 19, 2011

Kansas City wheat futures traded lower this morning under pressure mostly from outside market activity, according to traders.

The U.S. dollar was trading stronger today on concerns about the European debt and particularly the status of the Greek economy, traders said.

Rainfall over the weekend in hard red winter wheat areas also weighed on prices in Kansas City today.

While some places missed rainfall, several areas received decent amounts that helped a little going into the planting season, traders said.

KC under Pressure from Outside Markets

Sep 09, 2011

Kansas City wheat futures traded both sides of unchanged today but were lower by midday under pressure from outside macro markets, according to traders.

The U.S. stock market traded lower amid renewed fears of debt default in Europe and the U.S. dollar traded significantly higher, traders said.

Weekly wheat export sales were decent, traders said, estimated at 512,300 metric tonnes. Previous estimates ranged from 300,000 to 500,000 metric tonnes.

Continued concerns about dry weather in the Southern Plains of the U.S. brought underlying support to the market, but outside markets were the key factor today, traders added.

KCBT Wheat Futures Start Week Lower after Holiday

Sep 06, 2011

Kansas City wheat futures were under pressure Tuesday morning from outside markets as crude oil and equities were lower, while the U.S. Dollar was higher.

Technically, the market took out last week's low and the 100-day moving average, which prompted liquidation.

Traders remained concerned about disappointing rainfall for southern plains states through last week but the macro forces were winning out, traders said.

Wheat Shrugs Off Unemployment Numbers

Sep 02, 2011

Kansas City wheat futures traded quietly higher today, shrugging off disappointing unemployment numbers released this morning, according to traders.

The U.S. unemployment rate for August held steady at 9.1%, leading to a sharp sell off in the U.S. stock market, according to reports.

Chicago corn futures led grain markets higher today, after a private firm released their U.S. corn production numbers yesterday, traders said.

The Kansas City Board of Trade will be closed on Monday in observance of the Labor Day Holiday.
