Wayne Pacelle didn't even begin to tell the truth. He said their only issue with cattlemen was with downer cows. What about the billboards they have up in PA that say "Graze every day". What idiot doesn't know the weather doesn't allow grazing every day in PA? He said they support humane slaughter yet they passed an anti-horse slaughter law in TX to close humane slaughter houses. Now old, infirm, crippled horses are dying lingering deaths because there is no place to send them. He says the HSUS doesn't have to fund animal shelters because somebody else is doing that, yet they show on TV pitiful pictures of dogs and cats in shelters and plea for money to improve their lives, even promising pictures of the pet you are sponsoring. Well, his compost pile of misinformation is getting deeper and deeper. I hope people open their eyes to what HSUS's agenda really is!

Anyone who can sit across from Pacelle and listem to him without spitting at him has my hearty congratulations.

I, too, would like to know what, in his opinion, constitutes 'humane' animal husbandry. Not that I think we'll ever achieve that; any time it looks like we might be getting close he''ll move the bar. Remember the poultry farmers in CA.

I'm really looking forward to seeing his answers.

1) Define the term "factory farm"; given that the vast majority of US livestock operations are family owned, what term is used to describe these operations? is there an overlap, and if so, how?
2) If HSUS could give its stamp of approval for humane animal-protein food production, what specific criteria would be included in making that distinction?
3) Much of the HSUS-supported legislation lacks specificity or justification regarding so-called improvements in animal care. Has HSUS considered sponsoring animal welfare research conducted by land-grant institutions for publication in leading, peer-reviewed publications within animal husbandry and/or veterinary medicine in an effort to better define these requiremnts? Why or why not? (I specify land-grants because these institutions traditionally perform the bulk of well-respected animal agriculture research)
4) Do HSUS and other lobbying groups have a social responsibility to help governments identify funding sources necessary for expanded investigative and prosecution efforts when authoring or sponsoring Mo. Prop B-type legislation? How do they expect this type of legislation to be enforced when local and state governments presently lack the resources to effectively enforce current regulations or carry-out mandated inspections?

My first thought would be to ask if Wayne can name a specific for-profit entity in the animal agriculture and husbandry industry whose management methodology agrees the most with HSUS and their goal. If so, why?--what is it about that methodology that makes it stand out in the crowd? If he cannot name such an entity or even a methodology, why not?--shouldn't there be some entity which is pursuing similar ideological goals?

As a followup, if such a management methodology exists (such as the one above), and that management methodology was incorporated on a totally volunteer basis, would HSUS still pursue legal matters such as Prop B? If so, why?--wouldn't the end goal be accomplished? If not, where would that massive amount of money that is currently being spent solely on lobbying and legal issues be dedicated to?

Ask him how he feels about himself tricking the public, and if he would release the amount of money that is actaully being spent on house hold pets compared to money being spent to try to regulate the ag livestock sector including lawyer fees. I feel his commericals are misleading the public and he could clarify this with actaul audits from hsus finaicial statements
