Government works projects are nothing new. They’ve been going on for thousands of years. But if some of the old projects were built today I wonder what sort of qualifications you’d need to get hired…

We live in a semi-rural community on a parcel about the size of an acre. I’m not much of a green thumb but if there’s one thing I excel at it’s growing weeds. I don’t even have to try! In fact they have grown so well over the last few months that we had to have some pros come in today and take care of them. It’s a vicious circle. They grow we pull ‘em. Turn your back for one minute and they take over!

At one time, several years back, I got tired of wearing glasses and decided to give contacts a try. I could never quite get the hang of putting them in though…The following pretty much sums up the entire experience…

My friend up in Oregon just put in a second wood burning stove. He’s a really handy guy…cuts all his own firewood too. Sometimes when I visit him he puts me and my other buddy to work cutting and splitting wood. I have to admit I’d never used a chain saw up until a few years ago. I like it! It’s rewarding to know that the wood you are cutting will be used to heat the place you’re staying. It gives me a real appreciation of what it takes to provide energy for a home.  It is pretty darn labor intensive though, all the cutting and loading and stacking, etc. Just think how much more efficient it would be to have an endless supply of “fuel” right in your own home…

So a couple of days ago we get a call from the store where we bought our refrigerator back in 2001. Seems it’s been recalled because of spontaneous combustion. Funny, I always thought that refrigerators were supposed to keep food cold. Here’s a little tribute to those dedicated professionals whose life’s work is making sure our food stays nice and chilly…

Sometimes my wife says I’ll never grow up. I say immaturity keeps me young…But alas, we all eventually have to grow up sometime…

Went to Hawaii several years back and learned a lot of interesting tidbits about the local flora and fauna. Being raised in the suburbs I had always assumed that coconut milk came from a completely different source. Guess you really do learn something new every day!

When my oldest son (now 21) was 14, he asked if he could get his tongue pierced. Being wise and responsible parents we decided on a compromise and agreed to let him to get his ears pierced…Ouch.

So my son has worked for a large cellular phone provider for several years. He got us a great family plan at a very attractive price but when I ask him why, when I’m sitting at my desk, not moving, that sometimes my conversation starts to break up and my calls get dropped he tells me the technology isn’t perfect. For some reason I don’t find that reason, logical as it may be, particularly comforting. Suffice to say I still have a land line too.

Sometimes moms just need a break from the kitchen…even mama birds.

Spent all last weekend doing taxes…What more can I say than, “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
AARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGG
GGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
There, I feel better now.

Why, it’s not even safe for peanuts!

What a world we live in these days. Tattoos and body piercings are all the rage. It doesn’t seem to take long for a new trend to “catch” on. Before you know it everybody’s hooked…

How many times as a parent have I told my kids not to jump in bed? Kinda make me wonder if parents do the same thing in other cultures…

A few years back, as I mentioned in a previous post, I had a slipped disk that required surgery.  I wanted to get as many opinions as possible before going under the knife. This of course meant many doctors visits and lot of waiting and waiting and waiting and...

Monday mornings and coffee were meant for each other, but why just settle for a plain ol’ cup a joe? I like to start my work week off with a little kick...The fresher the better!

A few years ago I had the unpleasant experience of having a slipped disk. Acupuncture was suggested as an alternative to surgery (much less expensive too!) so I went for a few treatments from which I gained no relief. I was later told that my acupuncturist didn’t find the following very amusing…

Made it all the way from Hobbs, New Mexico to Espanola today…Another long trek…and boy, was it windy! …Just how windy was it?...

Lots of driving yesterday. Ended up in a small town in southeast New Mexico. Dining choices were somewhat limited so we ate a well known chain. Sure wish the salmon I ordered was a fresh as this…
