Disarming them with humor
Apr 29, 2010
In a few weeks I was to have been the luncheon speaker for a well known organization but there was a last minute change and now I’ve been replaced by some secretary named Robert. I was told this guy, Robert, is supposed to be some sort of big wig. But how big can he be if he’s just a secretary? Oh, I’m sure he can probably type faster than me but I’ll bet I can fetch coffee and make copies just as good as he can. Apparently Robert's boss is the president of some big organization and he sends Robert all over the world because he has good people skills, but, hey, I can be pretty personable too. I guess I could I could have called up Robert and complained but he might have gone ballistic probably would have blown up at me and the last thing I need to be is stuck on the phone with some defensive secretary.
(Correction, I was actually replaced by a retired secretary named “William.” (William Perry that is...retired Secretary of Defense. Both Perry and George Schultz have teamed up to push for the new START treaty which attempts to reduce the number of nukes in the world...I still would have been funnier though...)
