Rubes Cartoons - Tales from a Twisted Mind

RSS By: Leigh Rubin,

A cartoonish look at life...

There's one born every minute

Apr 15, 2010
I know I’ve blogged about this before, but how is possible that anybody ever falls for those email scams where someone from a foreign land has come across a huge sum of money and they need to get it out of their country and somehow or another out of six billion people on this planet they found your email address and only you can help them...And for your help you will be rewarded handsomely. Take for instance this excerpt from one of those scam emails I just received today: ” ... Without boring you with politics of Russia, I will go straight to the point to ask for your cooperation to discreetly re-profile funds worth fifty two million, two hundred thousand euro own by this business tycoon from its present location via a bank in eastern Europe to a new investment location. You will be paid eight percent for your 'management consultancy fees.” Now I’m no mathematician but eight percent of 250 million plus Euros is definitely not chump change. In fact I’ll bet you could buy a whole lot of lollipops with it or more likely in this case, one big sucker.

My mistake...eight percent of 52 million Euros is over 4 million Euros. Still enough to by a candy store or two.

I know that you have said before that you have a poor memory, as you can see in this blog, 52 million is not 250 million.
