Childhood Adventure!
Sep 20, 2010
Why is it that so many of the things that parents tell their kids not to do are so much fun? You know, things like jumping on your bed (the perfect trampoline!), playing with you food (forks make great catapults...especially with little meatballs or baked beans!), or drinking out of the garden hose (hey, that’s what your immune system is for, right?) .When you’re a little kid you have you whole life ahead of you. It’s one big adventure just waiting to happen. There is no end to the possibilities of how much fun you can experience. Of course there are certain risks that kids take without fully appreciating the consequences. For example, tilting your chair back and letting gravity take over. This happened to me on a cement patio. After I regained consciousness I thoroughly understood the concept that two objects (my head and the cement) cannot occupy the same space. I think my favorite risky activity was having rubber band fights. I’m not going to name names or point the finger (especially one that’s armed with a nice big, fat, juicy rubber band) but I can recall more than one incident when one of us kids narrowly avoided causing a serious eye injury. (I was a pretty good shot). Despite all this childhood recklessness most us seem to survive, eventually grow up, have kids of our own and sternly warn them about all the dangerous activities they should avoid...Why do we even bother?
